Relaxation?…I think not

I should know better.  When we plan a weeked to do nothing, it never happens.

It took us 2 days to install this:

For any of you who have put together something from Ikea you know how fun this can be.

Hours of looking at this creepy thing while you attempt to decipher the “picture only” assembly instructions can turn even the most diligent do-it-yourselfer mad.  I will have to put it to them though…thier instruction books keep you on your toes AND help excersise that spatial recognition side of the brain.  Although by Day 2, hour 4 we both were totally perplexed as to what Ikea man was wanting us to do.

It took us one day to recover from this madness but In between we had an awesome cooking class and dinner at Dave’s new place in DC.  So all in all it wasn’t a bad weekend…just not as lazy as I had anticipated.

The good news, is that Royce has finally moved in the bedroom!

My feet hurt

I started this AM at 7 (Charlie is an unfortunate alarm clock that won’t turn off) with installing the wall plates in the bathroom.
Then we hung the door
and the blinds

Then I got everything out of the master bed room
so I could clean the floor

Then I kissed my husband goodbye as he headed to work

I then started laundry
Lots of laundry
Washed the guest sheets for two beds, our sheets, our new duvet cover, some random beach towels, a comforter, and both mattress pads.  That’s lots of laundry…and I’m not even done yet.
While the laundry was going…down the stairs, up the stairs, back down the stairs (repeat at least 10 times)

While I was down in the basement I vacuumed the floor…and moped the floor.
The floor was gross.

I cleaned the basement bathroom, hung a properly sized mirror and threw away the junk left behind from the previous owners.

I moved our furniture from the guest room back to our room.
I brought up our bed frame,
and moved our bed.

Ate lunch. Fed dog.

I cleaned the guest room floor
Moved the guest bed from the dining room to its proper home and made the guest bed.

Organized laundry area and wiped down the counters.
Put camping equipment away properly.

Washed office floor.
Set up aero bed, made aero bed, tried to keep Charlie off aero bed.
Dusted office…Cleaned off desk.

Fixed window in master bedroom which Royce had fixed at one point but did it backwards.

Made our bed.

Collapsed in bed in our freshly painted room.  : )

More tomorrow….but at least if I run out of steam, our guests, who arrive on Wednesday, will have fresh clean beds to sleep in.

I need another weekend…and the saga of the tile continues

Going to work on Tuesday feeling like you need a weekend to recover from your weekend is not my idea of being well rested but what is a vacation starved Federal Employee to do?  We were busy little bees this weekend.  We managed amongst other things (like trips to Costco, and the grocery store plus dog walks) to get the entire master bedroom sanded, painted, trimmed and painted again….finished up around 8PM last night.  Good thing we had chili in the crock-pot cooking because I was in no mood to head to the kitchen to whip up much of anything else.

Saturday night we were supposed to go to my co-workers Chinese New Year party but that got trumped by driving to The Great Indoors to pick up tile which was scheduled to arrive on the 17th according to the lady I spoke with on the phone.  Lucky us, on our way to the store it started to snow, which means that traffic comes to a stand still and people start driving like total freaks.  Once there we learned that they were having a 20% off sale on all tile…2 weeks after we just dropped a load of money on our own.  Royce went to work his magic and spoke with some managers and managed to get us $163 back.  After that was all done we were ready to get out of there so we went to the loading dock to pick up our tile.

We scanned our receipt and I nearly had a heart attack.  Only 1 item was in (the decorative strip) and everything else had a delivery date of May 3rd.  MAY *&^%$ 3rd!  I can’t wait until May 3rd for my stupid tile!!!  The sales man said it would take 10 days…and now it is going to take 3 MONTHS!  Back to the customer service counter we go.  I guess their computer just puts in an ‘arbitrary’ delivery date.  According to manager, our tile is scheduled to be delivered on the 17th (we were there on the 18th), but was probably being held hostage somewhere because of the bad weather (sure blame it on the weather…whatever).  So instead of heading to a party grumpy and tired we decided to drown our home improvement sorrows in margaritas and headed to our neighborhood mexian joint instead.

The next time I do this again we are getting tile 1st and everything else will come after that arrives.  That way we can match the counter top/vanity  to the tile.  This tile has been nothing but a headache.  First we didn’t know what to get becuase our counter top samples were not in (and as of today I still don’t have a sample), and then once we found something we like it takes forever to be delivered.  I’m hopeful it will be in this week because that is all we are waiting for to complete the bathroom…and the room for that matter.

too late

Right when I saw him chewing the Kleenex in his mouth I said “Charlie, come here…NO…don’t swallow!!”…but he  gulped it down right before me…alas I wasn’t quick enough.  *sigh*  Stupid dog, I don’t quite get his fascination with all things Kleenex and Charmin…not to mention dishtowels, slippers, flip-flops, hiking boots, socks and yes, even cough drops.  He ate a bunch of cough drops the other day off of Royce’s night stand and smelled like menthol for the rest of the day.

Between chasing Charlie and pulling things out of his mouth I did get a chance to get out today and do some shopping.  I was on the search for a duvet cover for our bed before I decided on a paint color for that room.  After lots of internet searching and an hour at Bed Bath and Beyond I decided on this simple yet fresh look from Crate and Barrel.  Now I can keep our red sheets (and white sheets and green pillow cases for that matter) and get the green walls I want too.

I also went to The Container Store to price and get some ideas for our guest bedroom closet that we will be working on framing out when Royce’s family comes to visit in March.  Lucky me, they had an Elfa sale going on so I decided what the heck I may as well just buy it, so I did…and I saved us $150+ which makes me super happy (and soon I’ll be super organized).  It’s kind of silly that I currently have to go to 3 different rooms to get ready in the morning since my pants are in one closet, my tops are in another room and my socks are in the office…it is quite the chore…Royce is lucky he only has 2 rooms with clothes in them.  We desperately need to get organized before we go nuts.

Gearing up for the big snow storm we are supposed to get this week.  Third time is a charm, so maybe these silly weather men will get it right this time.
