Forward motion

Syd has been crawling for a good week now but it’s only recently that she can maintain and sustain forward motion towards an object of desire (most notably outlets, cords and anything else on the floor she shouldn’t be crawling to).   It is quite a shock to leave her in her room while you put away laundry only to find that she has followed you out into the hall.  So long days of stationary baby!  Syd is all over the place!

Needless to say I have a feeling next week we will be doing some serious baby proofing.

  1. Yay Sydney! Yes, your baby-proofing days have sadly arrived. When Jake hit this point, it seemed like a blink of an eye before he figured out how to open cabinets and drawers and unload all the contents. Fun times ahead!

So what do you guys do with the dog dishes? Most notably the water dish. I can put up his feed trough when he isn’t eating but I can’t just keep his water dish in hiding. Of course last night when I was prepping for day-care she promptly went to his water bowl and started splashing in it. *sigh*

      • Oh my goodness!! That is Jake’s absolute favorite thing — the dogs’ water dish and the food bowls. He LOVES them, and makes a beeline for them as soon as he sees his opening.

What we do is just keep them in an area he can’t access. There’s an unfinished part of the basement where Albert has his workshop and we can easily close it off and open it up just by opening or closing the pocket door to the basement. We put the dog dishes in there. Unfortunately, that means that when Jake is up and running around, the dogs are cut off from the dishes since we keep the door to the downstairs closed then so he won’t fall down the stairs. But, they have access to it when Jake’s not home, when he’s napping and after bedtime, so they don’t get dehydrated. We also put another water dish outside for them so they get water out there too.
